⭐ Things I highly recommend have a star emoji next to them.
At the end of November 2021, I travelled to Stockholm for a short city break. Yes, it was cold. Yes, I couldn’t be outdoors without a neck warmer on. Yes, it was totally worth it.
⚡ TLDR
The people in Scandinavia are consistently lovely; Stockholm is no exception. The food is hearty and the coffee is constant. Especially in Winter, when you are starved for sunlight, be sure to take part in Fika — regular coffee breaks to chat with friends. It’s fika’n wonderful.
🛌 Accommodation
⭐ Downtown Camper by Scandic was a great place to stay. The facilities are modern and well-kept. The location is incredibly central. The only disappointing part was that the spa was closed for maintenance, admittedly not really an issue.

🍽️ Food
Bakeries
- ⭐ NK Art Bakery: ****I believe this is a department store’s bakery. Really good stuff.
Restaurants / Places to eat
- ⭐ McDonalds: Absolutely not a joke. Their spicy chicken nuggets and sauce selection is unmatched. Swedish McDonalds is miles clear of any other country’s McDonalds.
- ⭐ Eggs Inc: Egg-based breakfasty/brunch foods. Visited twice.
- ⭐ Kajsas Fisk (Hötorgshallen market): The food market is definitely worth a lap around. But, make sure you have some of the fish mains from Kajsas Fisk.
- Glashuset: Swedish fine dining. Pretty cool building too.
- Restaurang Kryp: I had one big meatball here (bit smaller than a tennis ball) along with the usual sides. Unreal. Not quite the meatballs experience I expected, but one I’m very glad to have had.
🎑 Things to do
- ⭐ABBA Museum: I wasn’t too keen about going as I never really listened to ABBA intentionally. After visiting the museum, they were top of my Last.fm artists for the next couple of months. It’s genuinely a great, fun museum but you also don’t realise just how big they were until you find yourself humming along to songs you didn’t know you knew.
- ⭐ Ugglan: Aside from the fries (see Food above), this underground bar has lots of the classic bar games to play. e.g Shuffleboard, darts, air hockey, ping pong and lots more.
- Walk around the smaller islands and the parliament buildings. Rent an electric scooter to do it if you’re feeling wild.
